Protection starts at the outer surface

Corrosion under insulation, commonly referred to as CUI, can develop unnoticed when moisture penetrates an insulation system and reaches the metal surface beneath it. For this reason, the outer jacketing is an important first line of defence.

ISOLPAK® ALU provides a durable outer surface for insulated pipework and technical installations. The multilayer jacketing helps protect the insulation against external moisture, UV exposure and mechanical damage, thereby reducing an important risk factor associated with CUI.

What is corrosion under insulation?

Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is a form of hidden corrosion that can develop when moisture penetrates an insulation system and reaches the metal surface beneath it. Because the affected area is concealed by the insulation and its outer jacketing, the corrosion may remain unnoticed for a long period.

Water can enter through damaged surfaces, poorly sealed joints, penetrations or weathered sections of the jacketing. Once trapped inside the insulation system, the moisture can contribute to corrosion of pipes, ducts and other metal components.

A durable, continuous and correctly installed outer jacketing therefore forms an important first line of defence against external moisture.

Keeping external moisture away from the insulation system

The performance of an insulation system depends not only on the insulation material itself, but also on the quality and continuity of its external protection.

Damaged, poorly sealed or weathered jacketing can allow moisture to enter the system. Once trapped beneath the outer layer, moisture may remain undetected and contribute to corrosion of the underlying metal surface.

ISOLPAK® ALU is designed to create a lightweight, continuous and weather-resistant outer layer that helps keep external moisture away from the insulation system.

Suitable for demanding outdoor installations

The UV-resistant surface makes ISOLPAK ALU suitable for pipework and technical installations exposed to sunlight and changing weather conditions.

Its low material weight and manual processing also make it possible to cut, form and install the jacketing directly on site without specialised sheet-metal machinery.
